Inyanga Apothecary

Why I Created Inyanga Apothecary

Healing has always been part of my story. I write BOOKS because they are like medicine for the soul. I created Inyanga Apothecary to help us heal ourselves with nature’s bounty.

Long before I became an award-winning children's book author, I heard stories about my great-grandmother Carla, who was a midwife. I became the person who researched herbs, brewed teas, tended gardens, learned from elders, and searched for natural ways to care for my family. As a mother of three, I wanted to understand not only what worked, but why.

That journey led me to herbalism—not as a trend, but as a return to traditions that have supported communities, like mine, for generations.

Inyanga Apothecary was born from that calling.

The word inyanga is used in parts of Southern Africa to describe a traditional healer or herbal practitioner—someone who understands the healing power of plants and works in relationship with nature and community. While my own herbal education continues every day, the name reflects my commitment to honoring the wisdom of traditional plant medicine with humility, curiosity, and respect.

Our mission is simple: To create thoughtfully crafted herbal products that help people care for themselves and their families using time-honored herbs and natural ingredients.

Every product is made in small batches using carefully selected herbs. Whether it's elderberry syrup during cold season, herbal teas for everyday wellness, infused honeys from my apiary, fire cider, botanical salves, or other seasonal remedies, each recipe is created with the intention of supporting wellness while encouraging people to reconnect with the healing gifts of the natural world.

Rooted in Story, Nature, and Community

In many ways, Inyanga Apothecary is a natural extension of everything I already do.

As a storyteller, I believe stories preserve wisdom.

As a gardener and beekeeper, I see firsthand how healthy ecosystems nourish healthy communities.

As an herbalist, I'm learning that plants have their own stories—stories of resilience, adaptation, and healing that humans have been listening to for thousands of years.

This apothecary brings those passions together.

Wellness begins long before we reach for medicine. It begins by slowing down, paying attention to the seasons, growing what we can, supporting local ecosystems, creating community, reading healing books, and caring for ourselves with intention.
